“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger – something better, pushing right back.” Quote by Albert Camus

6.5 to 6.9 million for Singapore's Population.

Having skimmed through the White Paper. It seems to be saying the same things and offering the same justifications that were previously brought up by the Government? In fact, I don't see justification for an increase in our population when the infrastructure hasn't caught up. I take their promises on improvements to the infrastructure much like I take their promises to change and do better. With an artery clogging pinch of salt. Until I can feel like the quality of life is getting better and policies improve lives for the 80% and not the 20%, all the White Paper promises and media spin is more rhetoric to support misguided policies. Actually, even the spinning isn't all that well done. Hmm, what about an alternative? Would Singapore be really worse off if our population is at 5.5 million in 2030? Considering that talented foreigners might stay and develop their own countries which have more potential for growth, are we really getting the cream of the crop? Isn't it much harder to recruit talent when the numbers are bigger? So in order to hit the target, the standards are lowered. The ratios would be more or less the same, but the absolute numbers are more palatable? Seriously, going by their projections, eventually we should just hope that we won't have 4 million citizens and 6 million foreigners in 2050. Time to start thinking about how to get my children out of the pyramid.
