Setting Part 1

Some details about the game world.

Geographically, I would set the game in Italy about the Middle Ages. Religion is a big part of life. And all nobles and rulers have to be anointed and acknowledged by the Church.

The major religion will be a monotheistic religious institution, with worship of the Light. The Church of Light will mirror the set up of the Roman Catholic Church, with the Pope as its head, the Council of . This is for familiarity's sake. Holy Book of Light may be based on the Bible with a Light-sent Messiah. However, the Messiah is this case would be an unnamed archon who sacrifices eternal bliss to redeem mankind.

Worship of any other religions or figures is considered heretical and intolerable. It has come to a state where even worship of the ancestors or nature spirits have become synonymous with witchcraft, or the evil adepts who follow Darkness, a fallen angel.

Politically there are a few powers on the Italian peninsula.

Kingdom of Lombardy.
Capital city is Genoa in Northern Italy.
Current Ruler is King Bertoli Ansaldo.
Feudal system where nobles have their own holdings. Kingship is hereditary.

Marquisite of Verona.
Capital city is Verona in Northern Italy.
Current Ruler is Marquis Vincenzi Berengarii.
Dictatorship where civil servants are appointed and all serve and report to the office of the Marquis directly. Marquisit is hereditary.

Republic of Venice.
Capital city is Venice in Northen Italy
Current ruler is the Doge William San Marco.
Doge is elected for life by Signoria or the Council of Ten. Composed of powerful nobles and heads of trade guilds.
Signoria is voted in by 300 members of the Senate. Lesser nobles and guilds.
Senate voted in by citizens.

Republic of Florence
Capital city is Florence in Central Italy.
Current ruler is Duke Lorenzo de Medici
Duke is elected by Signoria. However, the reality is an oligarchy controlled by the Medici family who own the largest bank then- the Bank de Medici.

The Papal States
Capital City is the Holy City of Rome in Central Italy.
Current ruler is Pope John VIII.
An ecclesiocracy where the Pope is elected for life by Council of Cardinals.

Kingdom of Naples
Capital city is Naples in Southern Italy.
Current ruler is King Stephen V
A hereditary kingship with a feudal system. Includes the island of Sicily.

Please note that quite a few nobles are part of the clergy. So you can be nobility if you wish.
